Friend, We’ve got big news — Governor Holcomb just unveiled his 2020 Next Level Agenda. Since you have been such a big part of our grassroots movement, we wanted to give you a first look at our biggest priorities in 2020, both administratively and legislatively. In 2020, Governor Holcomb will continue putting Hoosier students, teachers and parents first. That means listening to our teachers and giving our students the best education possible. And it’s why the Governor is committing himself to: - Retaining and bringing the very best educators to teach in Indiana
- Changing career-related teacher professional growth points from required to optional
- Supporting the Teacher Compensation Commission and making Indiana a leader in the Midwest for teacher pay
- Working with educators to identify unfunded mandates and unnecessary requirements in K-12 education
- Holding schools and teachers harmless for 2018-2019 ILEARN scores
- Continuing to work to make sure that our teachers can focus on what really matters -- educating our students
Governor Holcomb will continue helping offenders become our neighbors again by: - Helping build individualized case plans for each person -- making sure they have the resources and skills to succeed upon release
- Continuing to help lower Indiana's recidivism rate and grow our workforce
Public health will also be a top priority for Governor Holcomb in 2020, including making healthcare more affordable for Hoosiers, making sure that the cost is transparent before treatment, and protecting pregnant women on the job. Governor Holcomb is committed to: - Providing healthcare price transparency for consumers via an all-payer claims database
- Protecting consumers from surprise medical bills, requiring estimates from providers pre-service upon request
- Supporting pregnant women and new moms on the job by clearly defining employers’ responsibility for workplace accommodations
- Combining health and human service call centers into an improved service, integrating the Indiana 2-1-1 helpline into FSSA call centers
- Incentivizing community paramedicide programs, helping EMS providers provide aid and not just transport
- Supporting raising the age to purchase tobacco and e-cigarettes to 21 and enhancing enforcement
Indiana’s continued economic growth is also a key focus for Governor Holcomb, which is why he is dedicated to: - Telling Indiana’s story in exciting new ways by activating a new public-private entity to better position Indiana to attract more jobs, talent, and tourism to Indiana
- Tripling federal defense investments in Indiana by 2025, continuing to attract more jobs and innovation to the state
And, of course, Governor Holcomb is committed to continuing to connect Hoosiers to each other and the world. That’s why he is focused on: - Continuing to grow Indiana’s infrastructure -- including our roads, rail, bridges, ports, trails, water, broadband, international nonstop flights and more
- Decreasing distracted driving by enacting a hands-free device driving law and making Indiana’s roads safer for all
We couldn’t be more excited to work towards these goals and continue Putting People First in 2020. -Holcomb Crew Contributions by corporations and labor organizations are limited to $5,000 annually; contributions by individuals, LLCs and political committees are unlimited.
