John,

Last month, actress and caregiver Brandee Evans joined Caring Across Generations staff Aisha Adkins, Shanté Wolfe, and Rebekah Alexander on Twitter for a conversation on what it means to be a Black caregiver.

In our conversation, we talked about how Black caregivers spend a greater percentage of time and money on caregiving — and got real deep.

Brandee talked about the need for caregivers to prioritize self-care and even to step away when they have the chance:

Even when I’m home, and Miss Edith is here, it’s great, but I still feel that need. Let me go, “What does mama need?” It’s like, wait a minute, what does Brandee need? So I work out, I have to leave the house. Sometimes we gotta leave where the work is, y’all, to find that because you’ll wind up back here again in your mind.
