Volunteer of the Month
June’s Volunteer of the Month is Gretchen Giles! Gretchen has been a dedicated, and busy, office volunteer pre and post Covid. She always shows up with a smile on her face and ready to work for the Democrats of Indian River. Thank you, Gretchen for all you do!
School Board Candidate - Cindy Gibbs
Cindy received yet another HUGE recommendation over the weekend. This one is from the TC Palm! Here is the link to the recommendation: [link removed]
Congratulations Cindy!
We still have yard signs! Thanks for those of you who have put one in your yard, but we need more out there! Rosario and Corbin are definitely outnumbering Cindy. Please show your support for our candidates by putting a sign in your yard! They are free! Come by the office to get one today!
ASKS OF THE WEEK
The main thing we need help with this week for Cindy is writing postcards!
1. POSTCARDS! POSTCARDS! POSTCARDS!
We are almost done! We need 15 more volunteers to come to the office and pick up a packet of 50 postcards to mail to potential voters for Cindy. A huge shoutout to those who have helped get this far. We provide the names and addresses and the postcards. We would appreciate the in-kind donation of standard postcard stamps.
2. KNOCK ON DOORS!
We knock on our neighbors’ doors, say a few words about the upcoming election and Cindy’s qualifications for the position of School Board Member, and then leave a card or a door hanger with them.

3. DOOR HANGERS! DOOR HANGERS! DOOR HANGERS!
If you don’t feel comfortable knocking on doors, the alternative is to walk your neighborhood and hand a door hanger on the doors of your neighbors. It helps spread the word and gives Cindy some exposure. Come by the office and pick up some door hangers for Cindy!
Donate! Cindy’s campaign can accept donations of up to $1,000 for both the primary election (up to August 23^rd) and then again before the November 8^th general election. Use this ActBlue link:

and share it with your friends, family and neighbors. Checks can be written to Cynthia Gibbs Campaign Account for up to $1,000.

DEMOCRATS OF INDIAN RIVER
Democratic Women’s Club
The DWC has been trying to establish a presence at the Taxpayer’s Association monthly luncheon and we encourage Democrats to attend. The venue for the monthly luncheon has been changed to the Vero Beach Yacht Club on the first Friday of the month. The food is now served buffet style.
The next meeting on Friday, August 5^th will feature a forum of candidates running for Indian River County School Board. The meetings are open to the public and theoretically non-partisan. Reservations may be made via their website up to 48 hours in advance of each meeting.
Young Democrats of the Treasure Coast
We have a lot of news and several events coming up to announce:
Downtown Friday will take place on Friday evening, July 29, along 14th Ave in downtown Vero Beach. We are encouraging any Young Dems who are able to attend this event volunteer with the Democrats or any of our party’s candidates who may have booths set up there and talk to young people who may be interested in getting involved with the Young Democrats.
We have several great candidates in the three counties that we operate in who need as much help as possible texting, phone banking, getting out mailers and knocking on doors to get people out to vote in the August primary. Anyone who can volunteer for any of our candidates is strongly encouraged to get involved with a campaign or their local DECs and volunteer to help these candidates win.
LETTERS TO THE EDITOR
This week we highlight a letter around our education system, and the attempts to destroy it. Remember, if we stay quiet and don’t speak out, we become complacent. PLEASE write a letter to the editor and speak up. If you would like to write a letter to the editor, you can submit your letter here:

We should be able to teach children to respect people unlike themselves
A group of middle school boys used an art project to create a racial slur and proudly post it on social media. Busted, they pleaded innocence, that they didn't know or didn't understand what they did was hurtful. Obviously, they didn't learn that at home. They didn't learn that at church.
Now, thanks to our governor and his obedient legislature, they can't be exposed to such radical lessons as the history of slavery and the long, hard fight for civil rights. Civil rights for everyone.
A group of LGBTQ students are spit upon and met with homophobic slurs and chants of “Kill 'em all" from their classmates. Obviously, no one at home is teaching right from wrong. No one is teaching that people of another color, race, sexual orientation are sons and daughters, mothers and fathers, aunts and uncles and should be treated with respect.
Where do they learn such things? I want to say, "Heaven forbid we teach respect in school.” Instead, I must say "The governor and legislature forbid… .”
What kind of future will Florida have when the goal of education is to teach students to "feel good about themselves" while hating anyone different?

FEDERAL
FOX host blasts Ron DeSantis for stimulus checks, but DeSantis should be thanking President Biden
Last week, using federal COVID-relief funds that he and every Florida Republican staunchly opposed, Governor DeSantis hypocritically announced that Florida would be sending out relief checks. He did not announce that those funds were secured by President Biden and Democrats.
But this time - it’s not just Democrats calling out DeSantis’s hypocrisy. Fox Business Network host Dagen McDowell went after DeSantis, accusing him of “moronacy” and “pandering” to Florida parents while making inflation worse.
In response, Team DeSantis has begun tying itself into knots trying to take credit for the relief while attempting to deflect blame for rising costs.
“This is a textbook example of Ron DeSantis acting like your average phony politician. His position on COVID relief checks is entirely dependent on how it affects him politically – the economic struggles of Floridians don’t even factor into the equation. Now, even conservative media is pointing out how hypocritical DeSantis is,” said Florida Democratic Party spokesperson Travis Reuther.
