Dear John:

Earlier this month, Color Of Change published an ad in The Washington
Post urging Congress to pass the Martha Wright Act and to fight for phone
justice.

Well, our work continues and John, we need your help. Color Of
Change and our phone justice coalition partners have been pushing Congress
for years to pass vital legislation that will give the Federal
Communications Commission greater authority to regulate predatory prison
and jail telecom corporations. These corporations charge families with
incarcerated loved ones as much as $1 a minute to stay in touch.

[ [link removed] ]John, this is why we are asking you to call your member of
Congress and demand they pass the Martha Wright bill.

[ [link removed] ]CALL CONGRESS: FIGHT TO KEEP FAMILIES CONNECTED

Thanks to pressure from Color Of Change members like you and the hard work
from phone justice organizers, the Senate Commerce, Science and
Transportation Committee unanimously passed phone justice legislation out
of committee. The bill also has 30 co-sponsors in the House.
John, we have to keep up the pressure to pass this bill.

With midterm elections coming up in November and so many families
suffering financially from corporate price-gouging tactics, the time to
act is NOW. That’s why we took out this ad in The Washington Post and why
we have to keep contacting members of Congress about this issue.

[ [link removed] ]John, with the House back in session now, the next few weeks
are pivotal for this bill. Call your representative and tell them to pass
the Martha Wright Act NOW so we can pass this into law.

[ [link removed] ]DEMAND YOUR REPRESENTATIVE FIGHT
FOR PHONE JUSTICE

Let’s be clear: John, no family should have to choose between
putting food on the table or speaking with their incarcerated loved one.

And we’ll keep fighting for phone justice so families can stay connected.
We hope you will join us in this fight.

Until Justice Is Real,

Sakira Cook, Co-Interim Vice President
