Dear John,
Today we celebrate Human Rights Day, which commemorates the United Nations’ adoption of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. This landmark document still serves as a guiding light for Freedom House’s work fighting for the rights and freedoms that it lays out.
Respect for fundamental freedoms has declined around the world for the past 13 years, meaning that the need to protect them now is as urgent as when the Declaration was adopted in 1948. On this Human Rights Day, support Freedom House to defend basic human rights and freedom.

Together we can shine a light on human rights violations wherever they may occur.
In Nicaragua, where mothers of political prisoners went on a hunger strike to demand their family members’ release.
In China, where the government has confined at least a million Uighurs—a Muslim minority group—to internment camps for forced indoctrination.
In Russia, where LGBT people are still the target of abuse by government thugs and bullies.
All around the world — from Africa, the Middle East, Eastern Europe and Central Asia, South and Central America — we are promoting democracy, holding repressive governments to account, and standing up for human lives and liberties.
Many activists run serious risks to defend human rights in these increasingly threatening times.
Please help Freedom House respond.

Michael Abramowitz
