Over the last few months, we’ve written to you about how the hospital industry’s profit-driven efforts to move care out of hospitals and skilled settings and into homes, which we call “Home All Alone,” harms patients.
Now, tech giants like Amazon are competing with corporate chains like CVS Health to corner the health care market and profit off sick patients.
Amazon recently announced its $4 billion acquisition of One Medical, a national primary care practice and telehealth platform1. This expansion into health care by one of the most monopolistic and ruthlessly anti-union companies in history threatens to supercharge the push to substitute virtual care for hands-on care and undermine nurses’ clinical judgment through the use of profit-driven algorithms.
It’s the new frontier of profit and exploitation, and it’s urgent that we fight to ensure new technologies do not keep deepening the injustices of our broken, profit-driven health care system. That’s why National Nurses United is hosting a live webinar TONIGHT to learn more about the work our communities can do.
We will also discuss how Medicare for All would counter the sinister new practices being developed by corporations like CVS and Amazon.
