Dear John,
A new study published by the Fraser Institute today finds that the employment rate for working age Canadians is at a historic high.
Despite this, the overall labour market has yet to fully recover from the pandemic-induced recession.
Why? The continued aging of the country’s population.
The study compares labour statistics for the first five months of 2022 relative to the same period in 2019 to gauge the recovery of the country’s labour market. It shows that only 8.6% of the new people over the age of 65 in 2022 compared to 2019 are employed!
Compare that to the stats for younger workers by reading the full study here. And be sure to share this one on social media!
Sincerely,
Niels Veldhuis
President
