The Center for Media and Democracy (CMD) has some new stories we'd like to share with you. The big news is that the American Legislative Exchange Council's (ALEC) annual meeting is underway in Atlanta, as CMD's David Armiak reports. The corporate pay-to-play organization continues its abandonment of the free-market and liberty principles it was allegedly formed to defend by wading heavily into social issues, supporting the Supreme Court's overturning of Roe v. Wade, attacking "woke capitalism," and lots more. ALEC members are also discussing efforts to single out China, take on Big Tech, attack public schools, and worsen worker conditions, among others. We recently reported on the big second-quarter haul that the Republican Attorneys General Association (RAGA) took in from big corporations and trade associations that pay for access to GOP AGs. Despite an arm of RAGA having paid for robocalls recruiting people for the rally and march that led to the Capitol insurrection, numerous companies were fine with funding the right-wing organization. In our reporting we caught an illegal donation that RAGA accepted from nonprofit charity the Philanthropy Roundtable. RAGA refunded the donation after CMD research director David Armiak's inquiry. Other news stories cover the Tea Party's biggest funder, who is bankrolling anti-abortion PACs, and a Trump-backed Wisconsin candidate whose company has violated worker safety regulations.
