Andy hit the ground running in Congress where he immediately proved to be a tremendously effective legislator and champion for working people.
As a two-time cancer survivor, Andy believes firmly that healthcare is a right and is committed to the fight for Medicare for All. He’s one of the original cosponsors of the Medicare for All Act.
As the founder of a green energy company, Andy takes the climate crisis seriously. That’s why he also immediately signed on as an original cosponsor of the Green New Deal at the beginning of his first term.
But Andy is best known for his work as a labor organizer and protecting union rights.
Two months ago Andy authored a resolution to allow Congressional workers the right to unionize. The measure resoundingly passed the House, and just 10 days ago staff from eight House members’ offices submitted their petitions to unionize – including staff from Andy’s office, as well as Cori Bush and AOC.
Most recently, Andy was among the 17 House Democrats arrested in front of the Supreme Court protesting abortion bans and the dissolution of Roe v Wade. Andy was the only male congressmember among those arrested for that civil disobedience.
