Volunteer spotlight

Our team of more than 25,000 volunteers across the country makes the work we do at NextGen possible. Hear from one of these incredible volunteers, Julia M., on why she’s involved with NextGen:

- Julia M., she/her
- "I am deeply passionate about social justice, climate action, and voting rights and I believe that NextGen America is doing incredible work in advocating for these causes. During the 2020 Election Cycle, I wanted to do everything I could to get out the vote and achieve a brighter future for America. My mom introduced me to NextGen and I was immediately drawn to its positive and helpful messaging. It has been so lovely to see NextGen expand and grow its organizing efforts. This organization truly has the best people, resources, and action items -- I am so proud to be a volunteer leader with such a wonderful group."

GOTV Recap

The midterm elections are right around the corner, and our team here at NextGen is ready. As we continue to work towards the midterms, we’d like to take a look back at what our incredible team of organizers, activists, and volunteers have accomplished for the 2022 primary elections in Nevada, North Carolina, and Pennsylvania. Here’s what we did, together:

- Sent 542,473 texts and made 43,003 calls to voters ahead of the Nevada primary;
- Sent 1,570,759 texts and made 32,487 calls to voters ahead of the North Carolina primary;
- Sent 1,957,436 texts and made 30,749 calls to voters ahead of the Pennsylvania primary.

Our work is not possible without the dedication of volunteers such as yourself. We can’t wait to see what we achieve together come this November.

What’s going on out there?

When there’s so much happening in our country, it can feel challenging to keep up. Don’t worry -- we’ve got you covered. Here are some key issues happening across the country, and how you can help:

- Abortion rights overturned: On June 24, 2022, the conservative-led Supreme Court ruled to overturn the constitutional right to abortion. This decision reversed a right that Americans have had for nearly 50 years, and placed the decision on whether to keep abortion legal in the hands of state lawmakers. We know what our country looks like without legal access to abortion, and we will not go back. At NextGen, we’re fighting for our right to make decisions for our bodies and for our futures. Stay in the fight with us by taking action through our abortion action hub.

-Gun violence: Just this year, there’s been over 20,000 deaths caused by gun violence in America. We all deserve to feel safe in our communities, workplaces, and classrooms, but Republican lawmakers and the Supreme Court have put the agenda of gun lobbyists above the safety of the American people. Instead of fighting to eliminate the growing threat of gun violence in America, the Supreme Court recently ruled to weaken concealed carry laws in New York, threatening similar gun safety laws in states across the country. But let’s be clear: Our fight for gun safety continues. Thanks to the work of organizers and activists such as yourself, Congress recently passed gun safety legislation for the first time in decades. We’re building on this momentum and continuing to make sure Congress acts further to fight gun violence and protect Americans.

You’re all caught up. You can take action on these issues with our action hub right here: [link removed]

NextGen Staff Summer

With the summer season finally here, read all about how our staff is beating the heat!

- Sarah Doyle, Text Associate: “I love how green and lush everything gets here in MN during the summer. I love going to the parks (hiking, biking, walking, and definitely swimming) including like wildflower/butterfly garden, the arboretum, and our two zoos. We also have so many fun events like Pride, the Aquatennial, the Minnesota State Fair, and more. My family also rents a cabin every year on the north shore to get away. We are very lucky in MN to have so many great things to do during the summer!”

- Natalie Monteiro, Digital Associate: “Summer means enjoying the sun, soaking up all the vitamin D and taking MANY beach trips! Roasting marshmallows, singing the Spongebob "campfire" song with friends, you know, normal summer things.”

- Claire Harcourt, Visual Designer: “I'm enjoying this summer by getting offline and going outside. I've been walking, hiking in the redwoods, gardening, and spending time with family and friends. Deleting social media has been lovely!”

- Kate Lyon, Managing Director: “We love to get the dog in the car and take a mini-road trip to all the nearby dog beaches.”
