Discriminatory Bank Closures [[link removed]]
For years, Iranian Americans and Iranian Immigrants, have been subjected to discriminatory policies here at home in the United States. As the Supreme Court continues to erode rights and Trump’s re-election campaign looms we must fight to protect our rights, [[link removed]] from travel and immigration to racial and employment discrimination.
In the last few years one of the worst consequences of discriminatory policy on our community has been the closing and restricting of bank accounts, based on nothing more than our Iranian heritage. These closures have impacted students far removed from financial support , families closing on a home or expecting a child , or even just friends paying each other back via mobile apps for Iranian food, the federal government needs to step in to better safeguard minority communities.

Securing Amendments in the National Defense Authorization Act [[link removed]]
This month we scored some important legislative victories on issues like inhumane sanctions, arms sales and human rights. NIAC Action staff and allies worked closely with Congressional offices to ensure that these amendments were offered and incorporated into the bill, and NIAC Action members across the country contacted their legislators to ensure that they voted the right way. Stay tuned in the weeks ahead for important updates. The Senate will advance its own version of the bill before the House and Senate negotiate which amendments make it into the final bill that is passed into law.

Building Political Power
[[link removed]]
Darya Farivar, our endorsee, earned the endorsement of The Stranger [[link removed]] for her candidacy for the Washington state legislature!
The Stranger has a wide readership and is one of the most influential endorsements a candidate can receive in the Seattle area. This further demonstrates that Darya has what it takes to win her election and become the first Iranian-American woman to serve in the Washington state legislature. Darya earned praise for standing out in a crowded, ultra-competitive primary with her bold policy vision for Washington, including stepping up action on preventing gun violence, fighting for stable housing, criminal justice and public safety reforms, disability rights and more.
➡️ Can you join us this Sunday, July 2 at 5:00 pm PT for a special virtual phone bank with her campaign to help send her to the state house? [[link removed]]
