John,
In just 6 days, the reproductive justice movement is facing its first big test on the ballot since the overturning of Roe v. Wade.
Kansans going to the polls this Tuesday will be asked to vote on a constitutional amendment that would state that the right to an abortion is not protected by the Kansas Constitution. If this amendment passes, the Kansas legislature will act quickly to ban and criminalize abortion. But there’s still time to fight back.
Kansans for Constitutional Freedom is holding phone banks every day through Election Day to urge voters to vote NO on removing the right to an abortion in Kansas. Will you sign up for a phone bank shift this week to connect with voters and help defeat this amendment on August 2? Click here to RSVP.
Phonebank for Abortion Rights
Here’s the good news: The majority of people support the freedom to have an abortion – on both sides of the aisle. In Kansas, 50.5% of residents believe that the state should not place any limitations on who can get an abortion, with only a quarter of people supporting limiting access, and just 5% of Kansans are in favor of a total ban on abortion in the state.1
People across the country understand that abortions are necessary health care, and that our neighbors and loved ones deserve the freedom to make that decision for themselves.
But the right wing in Kansas is working hard to subvert democracy and push this unpopular ban through. They’ve pushed ads that range from highly misleading to full-on lies, phrased the amendment as confusingly as they could, and scheduled this vote for a lower-turnout election to discourage their constituents from making their voices heard.
Recent polls show this referendum is going to come down to the wire, and every vote contact we make gets us closer to preserving the right to an abortion in Kansas.
No matter where you live, you can take action for abortion rights now. Sign up for a phonebank shift between now and August 2, and together we can show the anti-abortion movement just what we’re made of.
In solidarity,
Working Families Party
