Today we want to bring your attention to Rep. Matt Gaetz, a congressman from Florida. If you didn’t know, Matt Gaetz has positioned himself as a “MAGA” Republican.

In his time in Congress so far, he has voted against: Marriage Equality, The Right to Contraception Act, a bill that would address the baby formula shortage, The Affordable Insulin Now Act, etc…

We are discussing him today because we want to address his recent comments. According to Vanity Fair, at the Turning Point USA Student Action Summit in Tampa, he said this:

“But why is it that the women with the least likelihood of getting pregnant are the ones most worried about having abortions? Nobody wants to impregnate you if you look like a thumb. These people are odious on the inside and out…”

Someone who has the power to make our nation’s laws really said that.

Luckily, we have a path to getting Gaetz out of office. Rebekah Jones and Margaret Schiller are the two candidates running in the Democratic primary for Gaetz’s seat. We have opened a fund which will be sent to whichever candidate wins that primary as they face off against Gaetz in the general election.

We need leaders who exhibit compassion and empathy – not make disgusting remarks about a person’s body and sexual desirability.

Rep. Gaetz must be held accountable for his words, his actions, and his legislative decisions that affect us all. We need to help FL-01 vote him out of office. Both of his potential challengers are qualified and passionate about the people of their district. We are going to keep a close eye on this primary election as we prepare to support the Democratic Nominee for FL-01.
