The biggest question I got asked in my practice was, 'What should I do with my life?'
It's not a very good question. It's akin to, 'What's the answer to everything?' It's not a good question because it's too vague.
I'd challenge this by asking, 'What would you want if you were taking care of yourself?', 'What would you want in a relationship?' You need a vision for this. We do a staggeringly appalling job as a society of helping young people even understand that that's necessary.
I was inquisitive about this as I spent a lot of time with my Self Authoring Suite. We built a program to help people make a plan. And once we published the program, one of the things we found, for example, was that if we gave it to young men who were entering college a few months before they went to college, they were 50% less likely to drop out in the first year. That's a crazy statistic for a 90-minute exercise.
This isn't goal setting; that's too narrow a conceptualization. It's much more than that. You need to literally imagine it. It's like you get to be who you want. Well, you need to run the story in detail. You must cast yourself in a fully fleshed-out literary representation of your ideal.
So what is your future?
My work with the Self-Authoring Suite, developed over 10 years ago, was specifically designed to help individuals create a vision, discover strengths and weaknesses and build their ideal future.
The Full Self Authoring Suite is now available for $29.99.
