Friends,
I wanted to make sure you’ve seen the news – the Senate just passed our semiconductor bill! I’m proud to have been working on this for two years and I'm excited to see progress.
This bipartisan bill is a serious investment in our national security, economy, technology, and workers. Nearly everything that has an “on” switch contains a semiconductor – from cars to phones to ATMs to electric toothbrushes. Semiconductors are absolutely critical to our supply chain, and semiconductor-related delays for things like cars have been a huge driver of rising costs. It’s also detrimental to our national security to be relying on foreign nations for this critical tech – it forces the U.S. into a vulnerable position in the global economy by making us dependent.
I know this is a critical problem for our economic and national security, so I’ve been leading on a bill to turbocharge investments in this industry. It will help support domestic manufacturing of semiconductors, and it also invests in other critical tech like 5G that will help restore America’s leadership in technology and expand access to high-quality cell service. This bill has the potential to drive down costs, ease shortages of goods, and create jobs, so I’ve been fighting hard for it this year, and I’m so glad the Senate got it done. Now, it’s up to the House to get it across the finish line.
I’m laser-focused on accomplishing solutions that cut costs, ease supply chains, and promote innovation. I’ll keep working to get things done for Virginia.
