Last week, I talked with ABC News about the latest revelations from the January 6 committee:

For 187 minutes, the amount of time between the rally at the Ellipse and Trump tweeting a video telling his violent supporters to go home, Trump did absolutely nothing to stop the attack.

The committee released evidence that clearly showed how even his most ardent supporters – Members of Congress, close aides, and even his own daughter – made pleas to Trump to call off the violent mob.

But as the violence unfolded, Trump ignored them and made clear he was not going to do anything. Instead, he sat in the White House watching television.

Team, for nearly 3 hours, when our country needed the President to protect the American people, Trump did nothing. This was a clear dereliction of duty and complete failure to protect the Constitution from an insurrection. Yet, far-right Republicans running for Congress ignore the facts and continue to swear loyalty to Trump. This November, we must protect our country from these extremists. Folks, will you take a few seconds to do what Trump would not, and defend our Democracy by making a small contribution today?

Trump never made a single call to the heads of any law enforcement or national security department or agency in the government to protect the country from the violence that was unfolding at the Capitol.

His unwillingness to provide any additional support left many with no options, including members of Vice President Mike Pence’s Secret Service Detail who were left fearing for their lives, thinking that they may never see their families again.

Folks, our country was under attack on January 6 and Donald Trump, then President of the United States, did nothing. Yet far-right Republicans continue to divert from the facts presented by the committee, and to this day, rally behind him as they try to take control of Congress this November. I cannot stress enough the danger this poses to our democracy. That is why I am asking today: Will you help me defend our democracy by making a contribution today?
