John,
In the 2018 race for the U.S. House of Representatives, Black women candidates raised less than women and men from every other racial group. In fact, regardless of the type of election, Black women candidates raised the least amount of money across the board.
As a Black woman who ran for the House last year, I can tell you this: I worked just as hard, if not harder, than my fellow candidates. Black women have always had to work twice as hard—if not harder—for a smaller piece of the pie, and running for office was and is no exception. I’m working just as hard for my 2020 bid for Congress, but in the districts where most Black women candidates live—like MO-01—residents want to help but can’t afford to contribute to campaigns.
That’s why we need your help to knock down these barriers to diversity in Congress. One way to help us stay strong and viable is through monthly recurring contributions. Recurring monthly donations help us know how much money we can expect to work with each month and how much more we need to raise so we can stay on track and reach all the voters we need to win.
Will you set up a monthly recurring donation today to level the playing field and give campaigns like ours a fighting chance?
Grassroots campaigns like ours (that don’t take any corporate PAC or special interest money and are facing PAC-bankrolled incumbents) can’t keep up without your sustained support. And if we can’t keep up, Congress will remain a club for rich white men rather than becoming a truly representative body of government.
Can we count on you to stand with us today?
In solidarity,
Cori
