Hypocrisy is not a term that I use lightly. But I don’t know any other word that accurately describes the modern GOP.

Here’s where we are: a Republican Congressman voted against marriage equality and a few days later celebrated his own gay son’s wedding. The GOP claims to value life and yet obstructs any efforts to protect our children from mass school shootings. My Republican colleagues want to take away women’s access to abortion care and at the same time do not support healthcare, childcare, or family leave. The modern GOP lays claim to the words “patriot,” and yet seek to dismantle voting rights and access to voting.

These examples are just the tip of the iceberg.

That’s why we have to put an end to their attempts to take full control of Virginia now, before they have any chance of taking the seat we flipped blue in 2019 by ousting a Republican incumbent. We already know they’re trying.

That’s why my team has set an ambitious goal of raising $5,000 ahead of our end-of-month FEC fundraising deadline on Sunday. I know it sounds like a lot, but if everyone reading this email donated just $4, we’d reach our goal TODAY.

These deadlines are critical markers. They help us mobilize volunteers, knock on doors, and hire staff to talk to Virginians about issues impacting us the most. Most importantly, they are indicators of how elections will play out.
