I went to Michigan this past weekend to campaign with Andy Levin because it is powerfully important that we keep him in Congress.

I trust Andy Levin to fight for abortion rights, climate action, and a government that works for working people, not just the rich and powerful.

He is the true progressive in Tuesday’s Democratic primary for Michigan’s new 11th District. But that’s exactly why he’s in a tough race right now. Some people with a whole lot of money have decided they don’t want an effective progressive like Andy Levin to stay in office. So he’s getting outspent more than two-to-one.

Andy Levin’s grassroots team is smart and scrappy — they’re doubling down on person-to-person organizing to make up for the outside money dumped against them. And when people hear what Andy Levin is fighting for, they hop right on board. But this team needs more resources to execute their plan for the final days of this election, so I have to ask:

We have to fight back because Republican billionaires, corporate PACs, and right-wing dark money groups have dumped millions of dollars into this race to try to defeat Andy Levin. Pure and simple, we can’t let them win.

If we let them decide the Democratic nominee here, that isn’t just dangerous for this district — it’s dangerous for our democracy. We have to say our democracy is not for sale. And we have to reelect Andy Levin — a progressive champion who makes us proud.

You know, Andy Levin isn’t the type of politician who hangs back, waits, and carefully chooses just which bills he’ll put his name on. I trust Andy Levin because he is a leader who fights from the heart — not by making careful calculations, but by fighting with courage. I trust Andy Levin because he gets in fights all the way — not because big donors like it, not because it will avoid political controversy, but because they are righteous fights.

And we’ve got plenty of righteous fights on our hands in Washington. So next January, when I’m in that foxhole to tackle the climate crisis, or codify Roe v. Wade into federal law, or level the playing field for more workers to be able to form unions, I want to be able to look over and see Andy Levin in that foxhole with me.

But that’s only possible if we get him across the finish line in Tuesday’s primary election.
