Joe Biden’s failed policies have helped increase gas prices to historic highs. His only plan so far was to fly overseas, and fist bump the Saudi Arabian Crown Prince and beg him to produce more oil. In case that plan fails, Mayor Pete has a backup plan: buy an electric vehicle.

Sadly, Biden is taking drastic steps to make the energy crisis worse. He directed the Bureau of Land Management to stifle oil and gas development across Colorado on 8.3 million acres of BLM-managed land and 27 million acres of subsurface mineral estate under the guise of "safeguarding" big game migration. This is just another example of Biden putting Americans last, leaving America dependent on countries that hate us for energy, and putting everyday Americans out to dry.

I called the Biden administration out for this horrible policy proposal, and I am working hard to block this land grab.

I am inspired by the young people across Colorado’s Third District stepping up to serve our country. My office’s application process to receive a nomination to the U.S. Service Academies for the Fall of 2023 is now open. Last year, I nominated 15 outstanding students from Colorado’s Third District to attend the U.S. Service Academies. I look forward to nominating another phenomenal group of students this year as well.

I ran for Congress to deliver results for Colorado, and that is exactly what I am doing. While rejecting the corrupt earmark process, nine of my legislative provisions benefiting Colorado’s Third District passed the House. While I was unable to vote for the final appropriations bill due to Democrat poison pills like funding for abortions, more money for failed federal bureaucracies, and freebies for illegal aliens, I am still proud that my legislative provisions that I advocated for in the negotiations process made it into the final bill.

My legislative provisions that passed the House will combat drought, improve I-70’s infrastructure, prevent wildfires, support farmers and ranchers, and direct resources to rural communities. Some of the specific legislative provisions that passed the House include:

1. $218.14 million for Bureau of Reclamation projects to combat drought. This robust funding will advance the efforts of the Arkansas Valley Conduit (AVC), a project authorized by Congress back in 1962 to supply clean water from the Pueblo Reservoir to 50,000 people throughout Southeastern Colorado where groundwater is naturally contaminated by harmful microorganisms and radionuclides.
2. $7.66 million in support of the Bureau of Reclamation’s Endangered Species Recovery Implementation Program affecting the Upper Colorado and San Juan River Basin. This funding will seek to recover four threatened and endangered fish species, continue water development projects, and ensure important compliance with the Endangered Species Act for water and power providers. As a result of this collaborative effort, approximately 2,200 water projects could take place in the Upper Colorado River basin.
3. After working with Montezuma County’s noxious weed reduction program, I successfully advocated for a legislative provision to encourage collaboration amongst various federal agencies to establish a pilot program to remove non-native Russian olive and salt cedars in the West. These phreatophytes consume vast amounts of water and exacerbate the drought crisis, consuming about 200 gallons of water per day per plant.
4. $10 million for the Indian Irrigation Fund to address the deferred maintenance backlog and increase water storage for a number of projects like the Pine River Indian Irrigation Project that provides irrigation to the Southern Ute Indians.
5. $52.23 million for the Forest Service to address invasive species like the bark beetle epidemic. This will protect western Colorado against the threat of wildfires through active forest management and commonsense solutions.
6. $1 million for the Wolf-Livestock Loss Demonstration Program to ensure that farmers and ranchers are compensated for the loss of livestock killed by wolves reintroduced by leftist programs.
7. $515 million for rural communities through full funding of the Payments in Lieu of Taxes (PILT) program for fiscal year 2023. This program offsets losses to local governments from massive amounts of federal land within their jurisdictions and provides critical funding for rural education, law enforcement, road maintenance, firefighting, life-saving search and rescue missions, and so much more!
8. $28.44 billion for the National Highway Performance Program (NHPP). This program will support I-70 and increase resources to prevent extended closures and improve infrastructure along this critical corridor.
9. Securing protections for farmers and ranchers through a legislative provision exempting livestock haulers from excessive Electronic Logging Device (ELD) regulations. The federal government severely misunderstands the impact these requirements could have on farmers and livestock haulers. Proposed onerous burdens could force livestock haulers to unload and reload their livestock during transport. Due to the unpredictable terrain of western Colorado, this could increase the risk of injury and add additional stress to the livestock. The federal government has no business risking the livelihoods of farmers and ranchers simply because they feel the need to over-regulate this industry.
