John,

I wanted to take a moment to acknowledge some of the frustrations and concerns I know a lot of us are feeling. Whether it's gas prices and inflation, the attacks of reproductive and voting rights, or the ongoing gun violence epidemic -- Americans have every right to feel anxious about the direction we're headed.

I share these concerns, John, and it's a reminder that we have a lot of work to do. But I want to assure you that we have reason to be hopeful, and that's because we've proven capable of delivering for our community.

With your support, we've done more to eliminate spent nuclear fuel from San Onofre than has been done in the past decade. We've protected our coastlines with nearly $40 million to replenish sand on our beaches in South Orange and North San Diego Counties. We've also made historic investments in desalination, water recycling, and critical infrastructure needs along our coast.

This is the kind of progress that may not make national headlines, but it makes an enormous impact and proves that progress is possible.

I'll tell you what else won't make it on cable news:

With Biden in the White House, our federal deficit will fall by over $1 trillion this year. In the past month, Congress has passed a number of bills to end price gouging at pumps, address supply chain delays, and slash the cost of baby formula in the wake of cost hikes.

Between now and November, the strategy of the GOP is to inflict as much pain on working families as possible. If that sounds grim, John, it's because it is. Republicans are preventing progress to increase their chances at taking control of Congress.

I strongly believe that a strategy built on obstruction can never win. For our part, we need to stay vigilant, and remain confident that progress is happening and that it is possible.

Thanks,

Mike
