Dear John,
I hope you and your family are having a wonderful start to Summer. Each day, I hear directly from constituents like you about the challenges you are facing and the action you would like to see from Congress.
These comments and feedback help me with my most important job, representing the voices of Sacramento County. I wanted to provide you with a quick update on how I'm serving you in Congress.
Protecting Reproductive Health Care
The Supreme Court's decision to overturn Roe v. Wade is a devastating blow to women's rights and reproductive health care.
As a doctor, I strongly believe that the decisions made in the exam room should be made between a patient and their physician, not outside politicians.
In Congress, I'm fighting to put health care back in the hands of women. I voted for the Women's Health Protection Act, legislation that would codify the reproductive health protections provided under Roe.
The reversal of Roe has opened the floodgates for attempts by Republican politicians to strip away even more fundamental freedoms, including a woman's right to decide on when to become a mother and start a family. That's why I voted to pass the Right to Contraception Act to protect the right of Americans to access birth control and to determine their own future.
I also recently helped introduced legislation to ensure that women across the country can access and afford over-the-counter birth control options and plan their own reproductive lives, on their own terms.
As your Representative, I will continue to stand with women across the country in the fight for their health care and reproductive rights.
