Don’t Spray!
Just Trap Mosquitos with This Easy DIY Tool

Douglas W. Tallamy, an entomologist at the University of Delaware, suggests controlling mosquitos at the larval stage instead of the adult stage. Spraying adult stage mosquitos requires insecticide at such high concentration that it kills all insects, not just mosquitos. A mosquito larva trap is a better option! You can build one with a bucket, hay, water, chicken wire, and a Mosquito Dunk® or similar product. A fermenting solution of hay and water attracts adult mosquitos who lay their eggs in the trap. The Mosquito Dunk® contains a bacterium that kills mosquito larvae. Your trap controls mosquitos while protecting all of the important pollinators and other small creatures in your backyard ecosystem. Jill Spohn explains how to build this trap in six easy steps here.
