Last week, the House passed the bipartisan Respect for Marriage Act, which would provide protections for same-sex and interracial marriages.
With Clarence Thomas signaling that the extremist Supreme Court should revisit landmark rulings on marriage equality and contraception access, it’s important to stand up and defend our rights now more than ever.
That’s exactly what we did. 267 members of Congress stood up for what’s right. Despite the efforts of 157 Republicans who wish to stall our progress and deny civil rights for all Americans, a bipartisan majority pushed forward and got the job done.
This is an important step forward in our fight for justice and equality – but this fight is not over. This legislation is now headed to the Senate, where it faces a tougher hurdle.
Several Senate Republicans have already announced their support. Now, we need to send this bill to the President’s desk.
Join me and show your support for codifying same-sex marriage and ensuring equal protection under the law — no matter who you love.
Thank you for everything,
Scott
