John,

Yesterday, LEAP speaker Chief Edward C. Jackson testified before the US Senate in support of the Cannabis Administration Opportunity Act, which would end federal cannabis prohibition.

Senators sought Chief Jackson for his more than 25 years of experience in law enforcement, including participation in over 500 investigations involving narcotics and distribution crimes. He has witnessed the true cost of enforcing cannabis laws, and he asked the judiciary committee to consider that prohibition, not cannabis, fuels violence.

In sharing his expertise with the committee, Chief Jackson explained how removing cannabis from the federal list of controlled substances would help police improve trust within their communities and allow them to refocus their efforts on serious crimes. Chief Jackson implored members of the committee to pass the Cannabis Administration Opportunity Act, not only to improve police-community trust, but to help right the many wrongs of the decades-long war on cannabis, a view shared by two-thirds of Americans.

For 20 years, LEAP has been on the cutting edge of drug policy and justice reform. Lawmakers recognize the value of our speakers' voices, calling for evidence-based policy solutions. Please continue supporting our courageous speakers as they continue this fight.

In solidarity,

Lt. Diane Goldstein (Ret.)
Executive Director
