Dear John,

You probably see them all the time.

Trucks transporting animals are common on interstate highways and county roads across the country. Have you ever thought about where they're headed?

In crowded trailers or stacked crates, these animals are usually on their way to slaughter, and their last days are some of their most harrowing.

Transport trucks are not designed to protect animals from harsh weather, so as heat waves move across the country, temperatures inside trucks can rise to well over 100°F.

Farmed animals are transported without access to food or water, and many animals suffer heat stress, asphyxiation, and heart attacks. Some die before reaching their destination.

No one deserves to be treated this way.

Animal transport regulations in the United States are downright disgraceful. The U.S. Department of Agriculture and Department of Transportation have the authority to draft regulations for and enforce laws related to animal transport.

The time for action is now.

Mercy For Animals is calling on the USDA and Department of Transportation to modernize U.S. animal transport laws by providing species-appropriate space, rest time, food, water, and protection from extreme temperatures.

Join us in demanding change by signing the petition: MercyForAnimals.org/Transport
