I’m Jean Ross,
President of National Nurses United. In a few minutes, I’ll walk into the
Rayburn House Office Building for today’s crucial hearing on our health
care system, and I wanted you to know that I’m so grateful.

I also wanted to give you a sneak peek at what I’ll say during the
hearing, and why I think it’s so important that we — all of us — convinced
Congress to include us. But first, I need you to do two quick things:

 1. [ [link removed] ]Tune in and watch the stream here. Make sure to share the link on
social media if you have it!
 2. [ [link removed] ]Sign up to join an organizing informational call, and learn all
about the different ways you can get more involved in expanding our
Medicare for All movement.

Here’s the reason why it’s so important that our perspective is being
included today:

I have been a registered nurse for 45 years. And every day, I’ve witnessed
the horrific failures of our current health system.

Some patients refuse the care they need — or are forced to ration their
life-saving insulin — because they can’t afford it. Many are crushed by
mountains of debt. And others are often denied care by insurers from the
start. These stories are not unique.

30 million people have no health insurance and an additional 44 million
people are under-insured. Yet the U.S. spends more on health care per
capita than any other nation in the world. We are plagued by dangerously
high costs and dangerously poor outcomes.

What makes this even worse is that these stories and facts probably
wouldn’t be receiving any airtime if you hadn’t taken action. This hearing
was originally going to be filled with opponents of Medicare for All. But
you rose to the occasion, made hundreds upon hundreds of phone calls to
Rep. Eshoo’s office, and convinced them to allow me to testify.

That’s why I’m so grateful. Your support and belief in the work we do is
what got me into this hearing. And it’s what inspires me — inspires all of
us at National Nurses United — every day.

hearing here.
