Last Tuesday, the Ohio Supreme Court rejected the congressional map used in May’s primary elections. The illegal gerrymandering in this Republican-drawn map was far too blatant to ignore and will have to be redrawn for a second time. This follows a long series of maps that Ohio’s Republican-led state legislature has been ordered to redraw several times.
With Ohio’s GOP continually pushing maps that are clearly illegally gerrymandered, it’s clear something is up. Ohio’s GOP is holding out until November, hoping they elect more conservative judges to the OH Supreme Court who will uphold their gerrymandered maps.
Democrats winning big this November is not only about holding our Democratic majority in Congress; it’s imperative to the future of the Ohio state legislature and every electoral map for the near future.
Ohio’s Supreme Court may have struck down these congressional maps, but they were still unfairly used in the 2022 primary elections and will still count this November, playing directly into the GOP’s plan.
Republicans in Ohio have consistently missed deadlines and gerrymandered districts to hold onto power. While they’re playing games, we’re working hard to deliver for Ohioans.
