** No comment yet from Senator Murphy about whether he will be doing another photo op or how all of the GHG emissions from this wasted investment will be offset. The buses cost double the cost of a better-performing diesel bus, before all of the EV charging infrastructure (and fire suppression equipment), and poor performance. Connecticut assumed the bus would last the same amount of time as a diesel bus: 12 years. Instead, it lasted less than 1 year.

WTNH ([link removed]) (7/25/22) reports: "A CT Transit electric bus caught fire in the parking lot of the department Saturday morning, according to fire officials. The Hamden Fire Department responded to the lithium ion battery fire at 2061 State St. The bus was unoccupied when it caught fire. Officials said the fire was difficult to extinguish due to the thermal chemical process that produces great heat and continually reignites. Firemen had to use 'copious' amounts of water to extinguish the flames, according to Assistant Fire Chief Jeffrey Naples. Two CT Transit workers were transported as a precaution from exposure to the smoke, and two firefighters were transported for heat exhaustion, officials said. All were released from the hospital following treatment. CT Transit Interim Deputy General Manager Josh Rickman said the bus involved in the fire was purchased and delivered in 2021. The cause of the fire is currently
under investigation by the Connecticut State Police Fire and Explosion Investigative Unit. There is no criminal aspect to the fire at this time."

** Of course, he had plenty to say when he was shoveling money into the program...

New Haven Register ([link removed]) (3/11/22) reports: "Thanks in part to a $11.4 million grant from the federal government, residents of New Haven and other Connecticut cities can look forward to seeing more clean energy CTtransit buses on the streets. The state will add 22 electric buses to its fleet, officials announced Friday at a press conference by the city green. Once the vehicles arrive, Connecticut will have a total of 34 electric public transit buses, according to Richard Andreski, the public transit bureau chief for the Connecticut Department of Transportation. In total, officials say it will cost $25.7 million to add the 22 buses, a price tag that includes retrofitting garages. The $11.4 million grant, which comes from the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Federal Transit Administration’s Buses and Bus Facilities Program, will help offset the price tag — and other funds
could, too. Andreski and U.S. Sen. Chris Murphy, D-Conn., indicated the purchase marks a step toward a larger goal: turning the entire state fleet, which consists of over 800 buses, electric. With two electric buses parked behind him, Murphy said he expects Connecticut will receive additional grants 'to continue this process of phasing out diesel buses.'"

** "That the Dominican Republic sources most of its fuel from the United States while Puerto Rico—a U.S. territory with American citizens—does not (and cannot in the case of bulk LPG and LNG) is an embarrassing absurdity. Such a distorted state of affairs can only be explained by misguided Jones Act protectionism."

Why doesn't Germany turn up its windmills and solar panels?

** Wall Street Journal ([link removed])
(6/25/22) reports: "Russia said it would further reduce natural-gas supplies to Europe this week, lobbing another volley in its economic war with the West and raising new questions about Europe’s ability to avoid shutting down factories and leaving homes cold this winter. Russian state-owned energy producer Gazprom PJSC said gas exports through the vital Nord Stream pipeline to Germany would drop to about a fifth of the pipe’s capacity, blaming sanctions-related problems with turbines that have already reduced flows. The fresh reduction in the pipeline’s capacity—from 40% currently to 20%—is expected to take effect Wednesday, Gazprom said. Wholesale European gas prices jumped 12% Monday to 179 euros, or about $183, a megawatt-hour. They have more than doubled so far this year and are expected by analysts to keep rising as winter approaches, adding to inflation that is straining economies, governments and financial markets in the region. European officials and analysts say Russia
President Vladimir Putin is weaponizing gas deliveries, aiming to retaliate for economic sanctions imposed on Russia and weaken the West’s resolve to give military and financial assistance to Ukraine. By keeping some gas flowing, they say, Moscow is keeping Europe guessing and maximizing the leverage it has over Europe’s energy security to sow political fissures."

According to Biden, the greatest exploit to America's electric grid that China could take advantage of is "racism" and not Chinese-built hardware.

** Washington Free Beacon ([link removed])
(6/25/22) reports: "President Joe Biden’s incoming cyber defense deputy has claimed that 'systemic racism' is one of the greatest threats to U.S. cybersecurity. Camille Stewart, a former Google strategist whom Biden reportedly tapped for White House deputy national cyber director, has argued that 'our #NatSec apparatus must be a part of dismantling systemic racism,' and 'pursuing anti-racist and anti-hate policy outcomes' should be a chief national security focus for the administration. Biden’s new hire is likely to stoke concerns from Republican legislators that his administration has been more focused on pushing a race-focused ideological agenda than on traditional national defense issues—such as the increasing risk of cyberattacks from Russia, Iran, and China. The Department of Justice said in June it is bracing for more cyberwarfare from adversarial countries. Last month, the FBI revealed it intercepted an Iranian-backed cyberattack against Boston Children’s Hospital, and Russian
hackers targeted an American satellite company in Ukraine earlier this year...'[Solutions] to cybersecurity challenges will never reach their full potential until systemic racism is addressed and diverse voices are reflected among our ranks at all levels,' Stewart wrote in a 2020 column for the Council on Foreign Relations titled 'Systemic Racism Is a National Security Threat.' She added that 'communities of color are disproportionately affected by cyberattacks that target critical infrastructure.' In a 2020 column for the Hill, Stewart said the Biden administration’s efforts to combat systemic racism 'must be woven into leadership priorities, processes, structures, and domestic and international strategy.'"
