ADHRB: Holding an International Religious Freedom Roundtable in Bahrain Ignores Systematic Discrimination and Divisive Government Policies

On 8 and 9 December, the King Hamad Global Centre for Peaceful Coexistence in the Kingdom of Bahrain held an International Religious Freedom (IRF) Roundtable. This will be a major international religious freedom gathering in Bahrain, and part of a goal by the organizers to see a proliferation of roundtables around the world, with a concomitant increase in respect for religious freedom. While we at Americans for Democracy & Human Rights in Bahrain (ADHRB) support the spread of IRF Roundtables around the world and work to promote religious freedom within Bahrain and the Gulf Cooperation Council states, we are concerned that Bahrain is the venue given the government’s longstanding refusal to respect religious freedom.

On Human Rights Day, Systematic Abuses Persist in Bahrain

December 10 is Human Rights Day, commemorating the anniversary of the adoption of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR). In honor of this occasion, Americans for Democracy & Human Rights in Bahrain (ADHRB) reiterates our call for all governments around the world to protect and promote fundamental human rights without prejudice. In particular, we note with regret the continued deterioration in the human rights situation in Bahrain in the past year.

ADHRB raises concerns ahead of Kuwait’s 3rd cycle UPR over the bidoon, torture, free expression, and free assembly

UPR Info will hold a Pre-session on Kuwait's UPR on Wednesday 11 December 2019 at noon in room XXIV of the Palais des Nations, Geneva. Ahead of Kuwait’s Third Cycle Universal Periodic Review in January 2020, Americans for Democracy & Human Rights in Bahrain (ADHRB) submitted an NGO submission. Our submission covered concerns over rights violations of non-citizens and stateless persons, in particular the bidoon; concerns over the rights to freedom of expression, assembly, and association; concerns over women’s rights and equality; and concerns over torture, inhumane prison conditions, and forced labor.
