Senators Markey, Cantwell, and Wyden are going to try to pass the Save the Internet Act, and we need to have their back.

Dear Friend,

BREAKING: 243 days after the Save the Internet Act passed the House of Representatives, Senators Markey, Cantwell, and Wyden are about to try to force a vote on the bill—today.

We just have four days left until the Senate ends its 2019 session, and it's a critical moment to shine a spotlight on Mitch McConnell’s obstruction on net neutrality. Grassroots pressure around net neutrality has been unprecedented, and the country will be watching today. We can overcome Big Cable—and we need your help right now.

Demand Progress is working to return net neutrality to being the law of the land. Will you donate to save the open internet?

Net neutrality is the issue that Trump’s FCC chair, Ajit Pai, wishes would just go away.

But Demand Progress and our coalition of open-internet advocates are not going to let that happen. It’s been two years since Pai repealed net neutrality, and a year and a half since it went into effect. In that time, Big Cable has thrown people into internet slow lanes, throttled websites, and charged outrageously fraudulent fees.1 We weren’t going to roll over and let Big Cable abuse the internet.

You helped us fight back. Not only were you instrumental in passing the Save the Internet Act in the House, but you also helped us hold Pai accountable for the lies he told about the repeal. We called Pai out for claiming that the repeal has increased broadband investment, and showed him that the majority of the public was strongly opposed to the reversal of the Open Internet Order.2

The truth is, the repeal of net neutrality did nothing to increase investment in broadbands—spending by Comcast, Verizon, and the rest of Big Cable has dropped since the FCC’s vote.3 And net neutrality is incredibly popular, with 86% of the public being for a free and open internet.4

We just won’t let up when it comes to saving the internet. In October, when a federal court ruled that the FCC’s repeal would be upheld, but states could pass their own net neutrality rules, Pai tried to declare victory.5 But our coalition is launching a plan to pass net neutrality laws in as many states as possible to overcome Pai’s obstruction.

Today’s fight in the Senate is a key reminder that we are not going to rest until we successfully restore the net neutrality rules, no matter who tries to stop us—from Ajit Pai to Mitch McConnell. It’s an ongoing battle, and we won’t overcome Big Cable’s deep pockets without your help. Will you donate to sustain the fight for a free and open internet?

Yes, I’ll donate to Demand Progress to help save net neutrality.

Thanks for your support.
