John,
One of the greatest responsibilities that senators have is confirming Supreme Court justices to the bench. These individuals can serve our country on the court for decades. Their decisions guide our country through uncertain times, cut through partisan noise, and provide independent, clear-minded leadership when we need it most.
When the Senate fulfills its duty to confirm qualified, upstanding jurists to the bench, our country, society, and democracy are the better for it.
It was the honor of my life to confirm incredible legal minds like Ketanji Brown Jackson, Sonia Sotomayor, and Elena Kagan to the bench. I cast those votes with pride, confidence, and hope for the future.
But it was also one of the most difficult moments during my time in public service watching Mitch McConnell steal a Supreme Court seat from President Obama, and then confirm Donald Trump’s extreme nominees Neil Gorsuch, Brett Kavanaugh, and Amy Coney Barrett against the will of the American people. They are divisive and dangerously out of touch with the Constitution they swore to serve. My Democratic colleagues and I fought those appointments tooth and nail – and so did grassroots supporters like you.
But at the end of the day, partisanship and extremism won out. We hold the Senate majority now, but if we don't take bold action to defend it, we'll watch even more extremists take to the bench.
John, we must protect our Senate majority to keep the courts accountable to the American people and prevent Mitch McConnell from holding open seats hostage to force his radical agenda upon the nation.
So please, can I count on your donation today to protect our Democratic majority and stop McConnell from retaking the Senate? I believe in the power of the American people to bring decency, integrity, and justice back to the courts and Congress, and I'm counting on you to stand with me today.
