| Friend, we talk a lot about transitioning to a clean energy economy, but what exactly is that? What does that mean for you? And why does it matter? Up and down the state, we see pollution, wildfires, drought, and other consequences of the climate crisis wreaking havoc on our communities. To win the climate fight, it’s imperative that we phase out fossil fuels and move to a clean energy economy. Imagine a California economy that runs on clean, renewable energy sources like wind, solar, and energy storage instead of relying on the oil and gas industries, which represent the single largest source of global warming. Well, the solutions are there, friend. Are you ready to transition to a clean energy economy? |
| | What’s preventing us from this transition NOW is a lack of courage from politicians who continue to kick the can down the road. (It’s no wonder California received a “D” grade in our 2021 Environmental Scorecard.) The longer leaders delay this transition, the more costly it becomes. We are currently NOT on pace to hit our state clean energy targets. And not on track to meet the world’s most ambitious climate goal – to keep the planet’s average temperature from rising more than 1.5 degrees Celsius above its pre-industrial level. We need strong leadership and a clear vision that focuses immediate investment on scaling up affordable, clean, and reliable energy resources to meet the state’s clean energy targets. And frien, this move won’t just reduce pollution. Having a clean energy economy will also provide a more reliable, sustainable power grid and present tremendous — and just — opportunities for economic growth, jobs, public health, and the environment. This transition — which will make for cleaner air and water, lower energy costs, and provide new green jobs — is critical for a transition to clean energy that benefits and prioritizes BIPOC and frontline communities who are disproportionately impacted by the climate crisis. Friend, we can’t win the climate fight without accelerating affordable clean power generation, storage, and access.
