Friends, there is so much on the line — and on the ballot. ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌

Hello B/E Team — We’re just ONE WEEK away from the primary elections here in Ohio. Even if you don’t live in our state, we just want to remind you how important it is to elect working-class progressives up and down the ballot and across the country.

Meaningful change starts at the state level. There’s so much on the line and so much on the ballot this year with states now holding even more responsibility to safeguard our fundamental rights where we cannot solely rely on the federal government to take bold enough measures. Many movements that have turned into federal law or widespread practice — like women’s suffrage, environmental protection, racial discrimination, minimum wage, marriage equality, cannabis decriminalization and more — all have their roots in state policy.

In what has been historically a swing state, Ohio could be key to shaping our country’s future. Already in Ohio this year, Republicans have succeeded in drawing unconstitutional, gerrymandered maps in their favor. They passed a gun law that went into effect last month legally permitting concealed carry of weapons — without a license, background check, or any training. And after the fall of Roe, they introduced a bill that would completely outlaw all abortions with the only exception being when the life of the mother is proven by their standards to be “endangered.” We urgently need to change Ohio’s course.

Bria Bennett (for OH HD-64)“I was born addicted to crack. This made it difficult for me to get adopted, but I was fortunate enough to be welcomed into a loving family. Forever grateful, I recognize that my life could have turned out very differently and that not everyone has the same opportunities or access to resources. This backstory is an inherent part of what drives me to fiercely protect and support working families. Being a young, progressive Black woman, I plan to lift up underserved communities and hope to empower the next generation of changemakers.”

Daniel Ortiz (for OH HD-43)“Having lived my whole life in Toledo, I’m running to better the lives of those in the city that I love and call home. Raised by a single mom, I know what it’s like to face food and housing insecurity. I’ve lived paycheck to paycheck, have been buried in student loan debt, and have spent most of my career in the healthcare industry where I currently work as a pharmacy tech and I witness firsthand how devastating lack of public funding can be. As someone who has been left behind by a political system that only works for those at the top, I’m unapologetically pro-choice, pro-worker, pro-environment, and progressive.”

Without the resources from the B/E community including you, we simply wouldn’t have been able to run for office. Both of us come from working-class backgrounds and face the socioeconomic barriers and biases that favor those with advantages, connections, and privileges. If we continue this cycle of electing elite, out-of-touch leaders, we will continue to get the same lack of deliverability and accountability. But your support has helped us break those barriers and run strong races that represent regular, hard-working people.

Now, with JUST 7 DAYS LEFT to reach voters with our messages, we need to remain competitive with our well-funded, well-connected opponents. So we’re personally asking you today to give us a final boost so that we can equip the Ohio State Legislature with two working-class progressives who will combat far-right attacks and fight for everyday people. Please rush $25, $10 or anything you can right now to help take us and more working-class candidates like us all the way to the finish line. CHIP IN NOW >>
