Hi friend,
At a time when reproductive freedom, particularly access to abortion care, is on the federal government's Most Wanted list, cities, counties, and other localities have a unique and pressing opportunity to push back.
From expanding abortion access, to outlawing discrimination, to tearing down racist policies, cities in even the most hostile states are at the forefront of this fight. NIRH has been there for more than a decade, partnering with and supporting local advocates to bring important wins over the finish line.
That's right: even now, even in states like Georgia, Missouri, and Texas - which have long sought to ban abortions - we've helped local advocates in Austin and St. Louis expand access to abortion and other reproductive health care and those in Atlanta create an official Reproductive Justice Commission.
Wins like these aren't possible without you. Will you make a gift to NIRH today so we can secure reproductive freedom in more cities across our country? [link removed]
With our support, local advocates are doing even more to create new solutions to old problems. Our partners in St. Louis County have secured the right of those who are incarcerated to receive comprehensive, compassionate care, including the right not to be shackled while giving birth, to breastfeed, and to access menstrual hygiene products. And in St. Paul, our partners launched a successful campaign to pressure Amazon to pull dangerous skin-lightening creams from its website to protect maternal health and challenge colorism.
Bold and innovative change is happening locally, in cities all across the country. And with 2020 around the corner, NIRH has a clear, unifying call: every community deserves reproductive freedom.
This call is being heard. After we launched our expanded Local Reproductive Freedom Index ([link removed]) - which rates how our cities are doing and provides a map for the road ahead - we heard from local elected officials from across the country who want to know what they can do to protect reproductive freedom in their cities, towns, and counties.
With so much at stake, we need your help to ensure we can provide what they need and help build a strong, united movement that is grounded in our communities.
Will you make a gift to NIRH today to help ensure our towns and cities are oases of care - and strongholds of the resistance?
Onward,
Brianna Twofoot
