“It’s a body blow in so many ways.” That’s how a former Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Administrator responded to the Supreme Court’s recent ruling, limiting the agency’s ability to regulate power plant emissions and respond to the threat of climate change.
We can’t let SCOTUS have the last word. We must take immediate action to protect climate-vulnerable birds like the Prairie Warbler before it’s too late. Will you be one of the 45 new monthly donors we’re counting on to join us today while, thanks to a group of generous donors, your gift will help unlock an additional $8,500 to safeguard the birds you love? The Court’s decision is a dangerous and damaging setback—and directly threatens our ability to protect birds and the places we all need to survive. But Audubon is ready and uniquely built to respond to these urgent challenges. We're already working at the state and local levels to help make meaningful, lawful protections for birds from the ground up. Washington may be in gridlock, but with rigorous science and a century of expertise on our side, we’re helping advance Natural Climate Solutions in our communities, and providing a safer future for birds and their habitats.
Just how many birds we’re able to protect depends on the steady support from caring bird lovers like you. Please start your dependable gift right away and be one of the 45 new monthly donors we need to unlock an additional $8,500 for birds and the places they need. ([link removed])
The implications of this ruling could limit the ability of federal agencies to respond to clear and present threats to birds and other wildlife. Instead of combating climate change through action, agencies like the EPA now have to justify anything considered a “major question” or “extraordinary case.” That means more hours spent in courtrooms and less hours spent protecting birds and our planet.
At a time when we’ve lost 3 billion birds in the last 50 years—and two-thirds of North American species are at increasing risk of extinction from climate change—we need these bedrock protections, and your support ([link removed]), more than ever.
Sincerely,
National Audubon Society
