Team,

Good news — our bill to encourage the manufacturing of semiconductors in the United States, instead of outsourcing it to China and other countries, is headed to a vote in the full Senate.

This legislation is a big deal for Virginia and for the rest of the country. It’s going to create jobs, increase our global economic competitiveness, boost national security, and drive innovation. And now this bill is close to crossing the finish line — it’s time to show your support.

Will you add your name now to call on the Senate to pass our CHIPS for America Act? [link removed]

---------- Original Message from Senator Mark Warner ---------

Team, I wanted to provide an update on some important job-creating legislation I’m working on in the Senate. This is probably one of the wonkier emails I’m going to send you, but it’s about a subject that is critical to both our economic and national security, and I want to make sure my friends and supporters know what I’m working on.

The truth is, the United States has allowed China and other countries to out-invest us in the manufacturing and innovation sectors. A key area – semiconductor manufacturing – has been especially challenging for our manufacturers and our economy at large to overcome.

That’s why I sponsored a bipartisan bill called the CHIPS for America Act. It will deliver a record $52 billion investment in emerging tech manufacturing, like semiconductor production. This historic investment would be felt across the innovation economy and would be a true game changer for Americans manufacturing everything from airplanes to smart phones to household appliances and more. Moreover, it would be a major incentive for semiconductor manufacturers to produce their products domestically.

For Virginia and the rest of the country, that would mean good-paying jobs and a stronger supply chain. We can’t afford to miss this opportunity.

Already, we’ve passed versions of this legislation in both the House and the Senate, but we still need to reach a final agreement reconciling the versions before it can become law.

And I’m pleased to share with you that I’m joining the conference committee tasked with negotiating this final deal on our key bipartisan economic competitiveness legislation and getting it to President Biden’s desk.

We can’t let this moment go to waste. folks. I’m committed to getting this done and I look forward to sharing more details with you all as we advance this legislation and get it signed into law.

Thank you,

Mark
