It's time to get excited for the largest dog-friendly charity event in Chicago: PAWS’s annual 5K for homeless pets on Saturday, Sept. 10.
And this year, we want to know: What moves you?
“Coming out of the pandemic, getting together, and celebrating a great cause is a treat. The atmosphere is amazing for any pet owner. Nothing beats a beautiful day on Lake Michigan surrounded by hundreds of smiling pups and loving owners,” says two-time 5K co-chair Gina Strohl.
But the fun doesn’t stop at the finish line.
“I love visiting all the vendor booths, going home with a bag full of swag, and taking my chances in the raffle prizes. Hero Hangout is also a bonus for those who raise $250 or more. The food and drinks are so nice after the walk/run!”

In addition to good times, Gina also appreciates the huge impact the 5K has every year.
“With thousands of participants and a local news personality as emcee, it helps spread the message. The more people who know about PAWS, the more helping hands, donations, and future adoptions. As an animal lover, I am incredibly proud to support PAWS Chicago's No Kill mission.”
Register today to join Gina and her energetic, lovable morkie, Keiko, at the 22nd annual PAWS 5K this September. Tickets are ONLY $30 for adults and $20 for children through July 31. Plus, all participants receive a 5K T-shirt emblazoned with our tail-wagging 2022 design.

MILESTONE: Our 75,000th Adoption
Canela was found as a stray by a Chicago police officer and housed at the police station for a week. The officer was concerned about bringing Canela to an overcrowded animal shelter. Instead, they contacted PAWS Chicago where they knew she would be safe.
It didn’t take long for Canela to find her family, and now she’s living the good life, being spoiled to bits, and attempting to win the love of her feline sibling! Her new family thinks she’s #1, and we’re proud to call her #75,000!
Thanks to PAWS Chicago adopters, 5,000 pets like Canela get new families each year.

Ending Euthanasia, One Spay/Neuter at a Time
There has been a tidal wave of change for homeless pets, and we’ve seen firsthand that spay/neuter is the way to end the killing.
During a recent Feral Spay Day, our Community Outreach team worked closely with local Feral Cat Colony Caretakers to trap, spay/neuter, and return over 60 cats. Every single spay/neuter has a massive impact on the future of pet homelessness, preventing generations of unwanted animals from being born on the streets. But we also know that if we stop at any time, overpopulation and the resultant killing of cats and dogs will return.

"He was emaciated. Now he is a little sausage."
Paco was found underweight, dehydrated, and his nails were so overgrown he couldn’t walk. Today, he’s floating on air (despite putting on a few pounds), and spending his days with best friend Jamie Young. See how this incredible duo found their way back together after a brief period apart.
Go Paco!
