CATCH UP ON SOMETHING

USA Today: 'A galvanizing moment': The fight for abortion rights goes local in state elections

Cofounder and co-executive director Amanda Litman said it’s too soon to predict the extent of the impact on elections come November, but she is optimistic.

“This is really a galvanizing moment,” Litman said. “Hopefully that will translate into voting behavior.”

Litman said they are capitalizing on the Supreme Court's ruling to energize voters, particularly in places where abortion has been banned or access to the procedure is at risk.

“People who are experiencing pregnancy will suffer this summer,” Litman predicted. “Some of them will die, and it will be incumbent on the candidates and the people running for office and currently elected to... make it clear that these (deaths) could have been prevented had they had access to the health care they needed.”

American Voices: Young Voters Want New Lawmakers

Screenshot of Amanda Litman on MSNBC. A headline reads,

“The average age in the Senate is 63, there are very few young people in these rooms. That's a perspective that is just not part of the conversation.”

“I think it's part of our vision for a diverse government. I mean diverse in terms of race, and class, and gender identity, but also generation.”

“So is age the only defining factor? No, but we need a government that reflects everyone, not just senior citizens."

The Lurie Daniel Favours Show: with Amanda Litman

“What happens in a red state or in a red community does not stay in a red state or a red community’s borders. The law that ultimately overturned Roe v. Wade came from Mississippi, which it’s worth remembering is a state where Democrats controlled the state legislature until 2011."

“Most of these Proud Boys that are running for office and unfortunately are winning — they are running and winning often in places where they don’t have a serious opponent."

"When Republicans took it over they were able to…take aggressive steps to ultimately suppress the vote…all of that is to say…even as a person who lives in a blue community — I live in Brooklyn — I have to care what’s happening in other states and other communities.”
