I just got off the phone…

John, I’ve just got off the phone with Gloriah from Freedom and Roam Uganda (FARUG). She and her colleagues help to run Uganda’s first lesbian drop-in centre and clinic. I need to share what she said.

Constant threats mean they face huge challenges in raising money for the centre.

Lesbians in Uganda face abuse in the streets, workplaces, and schools. Just for existing.

People want them to stay silent and hidden – but they risk their lives to live freely with dignity.

As women’s rights are attacked across the world, many of us are wondering what we can do.

That’s why as soon as I spoke to Gloriah today, I knew I had to take action. We want to raise £8,000 so we can continue to support feminist groups across the world like FARUG.

If you believe that whoever you love, you have a right to live without fear – can you please chip in now?

John, for those of us that believe in women’s rights it’s been a tough few weeks.

It can be hard to read the news – and when we do – even harder to know how we can reach our goal of a fairer world. A world that accepts all of us: whether we are gay or not, whether we need abortion services or not.

But today I have something we can do, together, to build a world where all women can live without fear. FARUG provides counselling, a health clinic and free legal advice for lesbian, bisexual and queer (LBQ) people. FARUG provide leadership and skills training for them to claim their rights. They then go on to support many others. The ripple effect really makes a big difference.

Still not enough people know about the abuse LBQ people must endure in Uganda - or about the work organisations like FARUG do. So whatever we chip in, is crucial to keep services like these going. Can you chip in today?

These powerful women in Uganda don’t need anyone to save them. They are saving themselves, together, every day.

But they do need people like us all over the world to sit up and pay attention - and give our support to the work they do.

If you believe, like I do, that women can - and will - change the world, will you chip in today to fund organisations like FARUG?
