Election Day is 109 days away. That may seem like a long way off, but now is the time to invest in campaigns to build up staff, candidate name recognition, put together Get Out the Vote materials, and start buying up television ad space.

Daily Kos chose to send a lot of emails this month asking our readers and activists to donate directly to Daily Kos-endorsed candidates like John Fetterman running for U.S. Senate in Pennsylvania, Stacey Abrams running for governor of Georgia, or Jocelyn Benson running for secretary of state in Michigan. We have asked you to make sure grassroots organizations in key swing states like Texas, Wisconsin or Arizona, have the resources they need to turn out every single voter needed to win.

In fact, Daily Kos readers and activists raised $248,311 for candidates and organizations in July alone. For the entire year you have raised $4,602,107 for charities, candidates and grassroots organizations.

We believe this fundraising is important and critical to our upcoming elections and the health of our democracy. However, this also meant that in mid-July we realized that we were very far from reaching our own fundraising goal—the thing that keeps our lights on and our staff paid.

Donations of just a few dollars at a time makes sure that at Daily Kos we can pay our bills and staff, and develop tools so you can take immediate and effective action. In fact, nearly half of our revenue comes from Daily Kos readers and activists donating just a few bucks at a time. But what's more, it makes us accountable to you—not to a billionaire backer, shareholders, or corporate sponsors.

More importantly, we know that in order to keep operating, we have to fight and deliver for what you believe in.
