I just finished two weeks of Army Reserve training. Two weeks of training in marksmanship, of classes in emergency medical care and battlefield triage, of field exercises designed to prepare our unit for war.

It takes personal courage for the 18 year-olds in my unit to join the Army and train for the possibility of armed conflict. Part of my job as an NCO (commissioned officer) is to nurture that courage.

Imagine what it felt like to come home to news clips showing Republican Senator Josh Hawley running through the halls of the Capitol -- fleeing in terror from a mob he had himself incited with election lies and a photo-op fist pump on the morning of Jan 6th.

Doug LaMalfa, and much of the GOP, is as cowardly as Josh Hawley.

Doug is terrified of his own voters, and he is terrified of Trump. Fear is why LaMalfa panders to the radical right with extremist rhetoric. Fear is why he declined to debate me during the primary. Fear is why he continues to suck up to Trump, a malignant narcissist whose four years in office will forever be a stain on our history and whose attempt to steal the 2020 election threatened the survival of our democracy. Fear is what would lead him to throw out democracy if Trump asks him to in 2024.

Our nation is in crisis. Just as a nation needs courageous soldiers in wartime, we need courageous politicians in times of political crisis. Doug LaMalfa's cowardice hurts the North State and hurts America. With your help, I will defeat him in November.
