Join us at Wunder Garten on Tuesday, July 26, at 6PM for our July Happy Hour, and meet interested new Board members. Their names and statements of interest are below:
Cam Smith (Sen. Blumenthal)
My name is Cam Smith (She/Her/Hers) and I am on Senator Blumenthal’s defense and foreign policy team. I am also a proud Hoya, currently pursuing my Master’s of Security Studies with Georgetown’s School of Foreign Service. In my free time, I run long distance races, power lift, and play three musical instruments - presently playing French horn with the Georgetown Orchestra! My love of music and arts introduced me to my queer identity as a child, and I remain deeply rooted in that community as it has given me so much.
Prior to joining the Senate, I was a Fulbright Scholar of transatlantic disinformation and journalism, and founded a non-profit to address global food insecurity and international maternal health issues. These opportunities led me to my role in the Senate and subsequent introduction to GLASS.
The community GLASS has given me since joining is one of empowerment, support, and acceptance. GLASS’ empowerment of personal and professional relationships invites often underrepresented staffers to bond and grow as a queer community within and outside the workplace. It has given me my first, and certainly not last, queer community in my professional life.
Micah Escobedo (Sen. Casey)
I’ve lived in DC for 7 years. I’ve collected unique job experiences and met fascinating people, some of whom have become great friends. GLASS was an important part of my acclimation process and I’ve seen how it’s fostered connections. I want to join the GLASS Board as Social Director because I’d like to contribute my digital-creative talents to an organization that helps young queer staffers exchange ideas, form friendships, and network.
I’m a dedicated team player and I want to help shape the group’s public identity for young staffers who are looking for guidance and career direction.
