NEW! Transition and Admission, Review, and Dismissal (ARD) Committee Meetings Recorded Webinar

This recorded webinar [ [link removed] ]will assist participants in *understanding transition planning and the role it plays in the ARD committee meeting process*, including timelines and statutory requirements; understanding how to conduct transition assessments, functional vocational evaluations, and summaries of performance and will review additional transition requirements such as state performance plan indicators (SPPI).

Updated SPEDTex Website

The Special Education Information Center (SPEDTex [ [link removed] ])?provides?resources and interactive features for increasing family awareness of disabilities and special education processes, with the goal of improving partnerships between schools and families.

In July, SPEDTex launched an updated website with newly added interactive features. Among the new features is ?My Spedtex? that allows members to build and personalize accounts for calendared reminders about meetings or resources of interest. The updated website additionally features 1) an option for parents to join a stakeholder database to be included in updates, meetings, or surveys, 2) improvements to the Spanish translation of the website, 3) a resource locator for educators and families, 4) a SPEDTex calendar of events, and 5) a New to Special Education section.

Admission, Review, and Dismissal (ARD) Committee Manager Training

The new 2022-2023 school year will begin soon. LEAs are reminded about this *self-paced, online course* that is intended to provide participants with best practices for ARD committee managers. This is an *excellent course for new evaluation staff, special education administrators, department chairs, and any staff who will be managing the ARD committee process*. The process includes scheduling ARD committee meetings, preparing and finalizing required ARD committee paperwork, facilitating the ARD committee meeting, and supporting families and school personnel through the process.

New Special Education Transition Course Available

The Texas Education Agency's (TEA) Student-Centered Transitions Network has published a new course, Coordinated Set of Activities, to *give Texas educators the information and tools needed to plan a coordinated set of activities, also known as the transition services for students with disabilities*.

Upon course completion, you will:?


* Understand the *purpose of a coordinated set of activities* within the transition planning process.
* Recognize the *importance of student and family involvement* in planning transition services.
* Identify the *required components* to develop a coordinated set of activities.
* Understand the *federal and state requirements* for a coordinated set of activities.
* Become familiar with *State Performance Plan Indicator (SPPI) 13 data collection guidance* for a coordinated set of activities.
* Recognize the importance of a *personal graduation plan and course of study*.
* Demonstrate the *development of a coordinated set of activities*.

Optional Assessment Resources for the 2022-23 School Year

Check out the July 14, 2022 TEA Correspondence from Student Assessment regarding?the optional assessment resources available to LEAs during the 2022?23 school year.?In addition to *providing data to support instruction*, each of these assessments *provide students with opportunities to become familiar with the online platform, including embedded accommodation features*, used to administer STAAR.

Self-Determination K-12 and CTE TEKS Vertical Alignments

These vertical alignment documents are now posted online and capture existing *Kindergarten through grade 12 and Career and Technical Education (CTE) Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) that closely align with teaching self-determination and decision-making skills to students with disabilities as required by Texas Administrative Code* (TAC) ?89.1055(h)(10)(A). Definitions from the research of Dr. Michael Wehmeyer and from The National Gateway to Self-Determination Project are the measures against which all TEKS were compared to determine their relevance. Only TEKS that met this standard were included, while all others were omitted.

Texas Collaboration Institute (TCI) On-Demand Courses

TEA's Student-Centered Transitions Network (SCTN) has teamed up with the National Technical Assistance Center on Transition: The Collaborative (NTACT: C) to offer this on-demand training just for you. The Texas Collaborative Institute aims to bring together Career Technical Education (CTE), Texas Workforce Commission-Vocational Rehabilitation (TWC-VR), and TEA to collaborate on services for students preparing for their transition out of high school. This course will provide learners with different aspects of how collaboration can occur and what can be done to assist in the transition of students with disabilities.

When you register for this course you will *hear from national and state speakers*, have *access to all training documents*, and* receive the* *tools needed to focus on district team building and collaboration*. This training series can be used by individuals, district and campus teams, and state-level teams.??
