My name is Janelle Perez, and I’m running for State Senate in District 38. I’m so proud to have the support of Ruth’s List, especially now that the fight for our rights is in the hands of state legislatures across the country.
Friend, this fight is about more than abortion – it’s about choice, freedom, and access to healthcare. And it’s about the personal decision of if and when someone is ready to start a family.
Florida Republicans have already enacted one of the most restrictive anti-choice laws in the history of this state — and now that Roe is overturned, protections for everything from same-sex marriage to access to contraceptives and IVF treatments are at risk too.
When my wife and I decided we were ready to have a family, we underwent a two-year process using IVF to get pregnant with our first daughter. I know just how devastating it will be for all families to have that freedom taken away.
Without federal protections to rely on, it’s up to state lawmakers to defend families like mine and a woman’s right to choose. And I’ll do exactly that when I’m in Tallahassee.
