Georgia's 6-Week Abortion Ban 🌹

Last Wednesday, the 11th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals voted to uphold the “Heartbeat” bill, signed into law by Brian Kemp in 2019, which effectively bans abortions after 6 weeks in Georgia. Atlanta DSA condemns this undemocratic, abhorrent assault on the right to healthcare and bodily autonomy for working-class people across the state.
The court’s enforcement of this 6-week ban represents a larger authoritarian campaign waged by a tiny right-wing minority against the American people, who overwhelmingly oppose abortion bans. We must demand that the US government take action to defend abortion rights for all, in addition to the right to universal healthcare, paid parental leave, living wages, childcare, college and more. ❤️ Atlanta Needs a City Abortion Fund ❤️

Join us Saturday, July 30th at Cabbagetown Park for a day of outreach to support the Atlanta City Abortion Fund resolution, which would allocate $300,000 in funds to pay travel and medical expenses for Atlantans seeking abortion care. We'll be reaching out to people on the Beltline and knocking doors in the Cabbagetown area. We'll also be sharing abortion resources and information.

From Starbucks to Amazon, workplace union drives are popping up all around the country! Aside from organizing our own workplaces, how can we as DSA support the labor movement and show solidarity with these workers challenging some of the biggest corporate giants?
Join ATL DSA's Labor Committee for a workplace organizing canvassing training Monday, August 8th at 7 PM at the AFSC Office (711 Catherine St. SW). Come learn how to canvass workplaces to find organizing leads, speak to workers about union organizing, and help workers gain access to the resources and support they need. We'll discuss canvass raps and how to have effective organizing conversations.

Join us August 17th at 7:00 PM for a virtual information-sharing session about self-managed abortion. Abortion pills are safe, effective, and private! In this session, we'll go over what a medication abortion is, talk about the history of self-managed abortion with pills, and share the publicly available World Health Organization protocols for individuals self-managing their abortions.
