Last week the January 6th panel revealed chilling new evidence from that infamous day. Secret Service agents protecting the Vice President "in fear of their own lives" from Trump’s mob and calling loved ones to say goodbye. Video footage showing Trump refusing his aides' requests to utter the words “the election is over” in his public remarks on January 7th. All the evidence reinforced the fact that Trump betrayed his oath to the American people again and again. And that he, and those around him, present a clear and present danger to our democracy.
The 1/6 Committee has presented the case and now the Justice Department must act to hold those who have broken laws to account. One thing is crystal clear — the Republican Party has disqualified itself as a credible governing alternative. It’s up to Democrats to present a clear roadmap forward for America — one that reflects our values and meets the needs of this moment. And we must start by defeating Trump Republicans right here in Maryland, and in Ohio, Georgia, Wisconsin, Pennsylvania, and across the country.
In addition to the House and the Senate, we need to elect strong Democratic leaders in states across the country. In Maryland, Democratic nominee for Governor Wes Moore faces a Trump Republican in November who has stated that President Trump's policies are the policies he wants to bring to the state of Maryland. And in Pennsylvania, Michigan, Wisconsin, Georgia and elsewhere the outcome of tough Governors races will determine the political climate not only in those states, but surrounding the 2024 Presidential election.
This is a historically consequential moment for our democracy. The outcome of the November elections will determine whether we will be able to take action to address the urgent issues our democracy faces — or fall back into the dystopia of the Trump Republican Party.
106 days to November 8th. Let's make each of them count!
All my best,
