Late last week, I signed a bill allowing 40 million Californians to sue those spreading illegal assault weapons and ghost guns in our state.

This is the legislation modeled after Texas’ perverse anti-abortion law. Because if states like Texas can use laws to put women in harm’s way, then California will use that authority to save lives.

Now, some have said, you criticized the Supreme Court’s decision on SB8, the anti-abortion law in Texas. Shouldn’t we be going high when they go low?

It’s a fair question, but it’s not the world we’re living in right now.

We’ve been on the receiving end of Republicans going low time and time again, and we’re not winning.

The Republican Party and the Supreme Court opened this door.

We’re walking through it.

This law means you cannot sell, manufacture, or transfer these weapons of war in California.

And if you do, there are 40 million people who can collect $10,000 plus attorney’s fees.

The passage of this bill was by no means guaranteed.

It took hard work in the legislature.

It took your voices.

But we got it done.
