Hello –
Have you voted yet?
Mail-in ballots have already hit homes all across Washington and as I look forward to our primary election on August 2, I’m also proud to represent a state that champions equal voting access to ensure our voices will be heard – this and every election.
July has been an important month. We acted to pass the Women’s Health Protection Act for the second time to codify the protections of Roe v. Wade and the Ensuring Access to Abortion Act to protect the right to travel to seek abortion services.
We also made strides to protect same-sex marriage by passing the Respect for Marriage Act to recognize same-sex and interracial marriages at the federal level. Forty-seven of my Republican colleagues joined us in this vote, but most did not. Another reminder that the fight for equality must continue.
We are also fighting for federal protections for data privacy, after earlier this month the White House warned Americans to be “really careful” when using phone apps that track users’ menstrual cycles and private health information over fears that the data could be used against them if they were to seek abortion services.
But as these pieces of legislation head to the Senate, once again, I urge my Senate colleagues to put aside dangerous partisan differences and do what is right for the American people.
And finally in the fight for our children and families, I am proud to have led the passage of the Formula Act, bipartisan legislation designed to alleviate the ongoing infant formula crisis. Washington was one of ten states where the out-of-stock rate for formula was higher than 90% and tariffs on these products increased the cost by 27% on average. This new bill will suspend these tariffs until the end of the year and lower prices for families that are struggling to feed their children.
No parent should struggle to find or afford food for their babies and this is the straightforward solution we need that will directly help communities in Washington and across the country deal with this ongoing crisis.
Supporting everyone in our communities has been my priority since I came to Congress and it continues to be.
Thank you for always standing with me.
