Dear John,

Inflation continues to skyrocket for Illinois families

President Biden’s economy is crushing Illinois families, as inflation hit another record at 9.1% in June. From the pump to the grocery store, Americans are paying more and getting less. Yet, Democrats in Washington only want to spend more and raise taxes with their reconciliation package, further accelerating inflation. The Biden Administration has failed to address this crisis, and it's past time that they drop their inflationary spending.

At our Ways and Means Committee hearing, I highlighted the negative impact inflation is having on housing in Illinois and the need to lower costs to help families in our state.

Discussing America's global competitiveness

I joined The Brookings Institution and CSIS | Center for Strategic & International Studies today for a discussion on “The importance of domestic renewal amid great power competition.” We had a great conversation challenges presented by China, the outlook for the United States’ relationship with China, and how Congress can strengthen our global competitiveness.

Supporting Illinois farmers

Thanks to IL Corn and Farmers for America from Illinois for stopping by our office in DC! We had a great discussion about the importance of supporting the RFS, improving our lock and dam system, and the 2023 farm bill. I’ll continue to advocate for our farmers in Congress.

I also enjoyed visiting with Illinois Soybean Association to discuss bolstering trade markets for our farmers and strengthening the RFS. Now more than ever, it’s important that we support Illinois biofuels and energy.

Advocating for cancer research

I met with Ambassador Nancy Brinker, a proud Peoria native and founder of Susan G. Komen for the Cure breast cancer organization. It’s critical that we continue to raise awareness, promote early detection, and support research efforts to find a cure. A big thanks to Nancy for her public service and leadership.

As always, thanks for subscribing to my newsletter!

Sincerely,

Darin LaHood
Member of Congress
